Confetti Party Details:

This is what Sarah said about planning the party- “Since my kid’s birthdays are only 5 days apart, I decided it would be best to have a joint celebration for them. I wanted a theme that would work for a boy or a girl, but also something that had meaning to each of them. I love all things confetti, so knew it would be the perfect theme. I also incorporated a “Bebe Sawyer” theme and used the silhouette of an American Bulldog in honor of Sawyer, my parents’ dog that Manny loves. It made sense since he nicknamed Maeva “Bebe Sawyer” shortly after we brought her home from the hospital. I also chose to use the word “Hooray” in the party details because Manny always shouts “Hooray!” when he gets excited about something.

{BACKDROP}
I wanted something different for the backdrop, and after much brainstorming, finally came up with a realistic idea. I was able to make the backdrop for about $15 in around an hour. I bought a large white laminate sheet from Lowe’s for around $11 that is meant to be used as a countertop. I used a dry erase marker to draw the word HOORAY on it. Then I filled in the letters with Mod Podge, and sprinkled confetti inside the letters. Once dry, I erased the dry erase marker outline around the letters. (full tutorial here: http://www.lifesweetlifeblog.com/2013/07/diy-party-backdrop-tutorial.html) I also hung a little glitter confetti banner from Target along the top.

{CAKE}
For Maeva’s smash cake, I made a mini cake and covered it in Cool Whip and some confetti sprinkles. I put it on a little cake stand I made with a wood plaque from Hobby Lobby and a candlestick that my mom painted with glue and food coloring for a translucent look. I found the cake topper inspiration on Pinterest. I cut the banner out with my Cricut, and taped the streamers to the back of it and then taped it to some paper straws before putting it on the cake. For Manny, I just did a little cupcake with 3 candles and added some cupcake toppers I made, and he loved his “special” cupcake.

{WATER BOTTLE LABELS}
I used my same water bottle label template for these (which is a free download on my blog), but I just punched out the center part. I put them on packing tape, and sprinkled confetti on the tape before wrapping them on the bottle. (The shredded confetti came from Hobby Lobby.)

{BIRTHDAY CROWNS}
I used my Cricut to cut their birthday crowns out of glitter cardstock from Hobby Lobby. Then I made a pinwheel to go on the front, and taped one of the party circles on it to finish it off.

{BANNERS}
I made a couple of banners to line the porch awning, and alternated between some flags I designed and printed, and some sheets of confetti I laminated. I just stapled them to glitter ribbon from Hobby Lobby.

{DROP CLOTH BLANKET}
Since Maeva wasn’t walking yet and hates the grass, I made a little drop cloth blanket for her to hang out on, and it also worked well for places for other kids to sit and eat too. I used a Confetti Drop Cloth Blanket Tutorial I found via Pinterest and it was SO easy. I made 2 of them and they are nice to have for when we go outside or to the park since the back has a waterproof lining thing on it.

{SWEETS}
I made chocate dipped oreos and pretzel rods with confetti sprinkles. My sweet neighbor makes amazing cookies, and she made some adorable ones to coordinate with the theme of the party. SAM’S is always my go-to for cupcakes. You get 30 cupcakes for like $14, and they are really good. I designed some cupcake toppers to go with the theme, and also added some flair inspired by some toppers I saw at Target. I stuck some glittery pom poms on toothpicks, then wrapped a little washi tape flag underneath it. I displayed the cupcakes on a cupcake stand I made just like the one I shared the tutorial for on my blog. The only difference is I used a larger top in order to hold more cupcakes.

{FOOD}
I added in some fruit skewers to try to balance out all the sweets. Though I did serve it with some fruit dip – cream cheese mixed with a jar of marshmallow cream and a couple of drops of pink food coloring. Pretty sure it negates any health benefits of eating fruit, but it’s amazing. We also served BBQ sandwiches and hot dogs that my sweet momma fixed up, as well as Patrick’s famous queso.

{GUEST BOOK}
Even though I was combining the kid’s birthday parties, I wanted to do a few special things for Maeva since it was her first birthday (such as her having a smash cake). I did a guest memory book at Manny’s 1st Birthday, so I also did one just for Maeva too. I ordered the 12×12 size from Shutterfly and just left some blank white space on a few pages so guests could have a place to write a note.

{GUEST PICTURES}
I used this idea at Manny’s 1st birthday party. It was such a hit, I knew I wanted to do it again this year. I just got a blank piece of cardstock and taped it to a colored piece to frame it. I took pictures of the guests holding the paper, then used Photoshop to add their names to the picture. I then printed the pictures of the guests and put them in a little flip book so Maeva can start learning everyone’s names. Manny loves looking at it too! :) (these pictures can be seen here: http://www.lifesweetlifeblog.com/2013/07/manny-maevas-birthday-party-part-2.html)

{MONTHLY PICTURES}
I displayed some of Maeva’s monthly pictures using little glitter jar photo holders. I got the idea from eighteen25. They filled theirs with paint, but I decided to do glitter instead and used the same method to make them as I did my glitter ornaments.

{OUTFITS}
I had the kids outfits custom made by SheShe Made and they went perfectly with the theme of the party. I had the same American Bulldog I used on the invitations digitized so she could applique it on their shirts.

{THANK YOU NOTES}
I designed the thank you notes to be like a coloring sheet, and had my son color the letters and the dog. I also left a spot for me to write a little thank you note. I put a picture of Manny and Maeva at the party on the other side so people could have as a keepsake or to frame. They were a little work to get him to finish, but they were a hit! :)”
