“Thing One and Thing Two” Twins 1st Birthday Party

This amazing “THING ONE AND THING TWO” TWINS FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY was submitted and styled by Julia Shultz of Let’s Have a Ball! Parties and Events.

There are so many fun ideas in this Dr. Seuss “Thing One and Thing Two” party! A few of my favorites are:
  • The symmetrical dessert table with everything for both thing one and thing two
  • The Dr. Seuss directional sign
  • The polka dot ruffle fabric
  • The topsy-turvy cake
  • and MORE!

Here’s what Julia said about planning the party- “I was very excited when I was asked to plan and style this Dr. Seuss Thing 1 and Thing 2 birthday party for adorable twins Brock and Brooke. I met Michele, mom of the twins, almost a year and half prior when she hired me to plan and style her older daughter Kaylee’s 3rd birthday party (and was still pregnant with the twins). Michele and her family live several states away on the Gulf Coast in Louisiana, and I live in the mountains of east Tennessee, so planning a party from such a long distance away can definitely be tricky. Despite the many miles between us, the party came together so perfectly! Believe it or not, basically all of my custom party décor, centerpieces, linens, and props flew from Tennessee to Louisiana in only one suitcase! I even had 2.5 pounds to spare in my 1 checked piece of luggage, which I dubbed my “party in a bag”.

Colors and Prints:
The colors we chose were aqua blue, red, black, and white, and the prints used were chevron and polka dots. I designed the invitations using these colors and prints, as well as the rest of the custom paper party details such as my candy, food, and drink labels, the signage, and also the paper I used to make the paper fans. I also chose fabrics to coordinate which I used for the candy table backdrop, tablecloths, and runners.

Cake and Sweets Table:
The sweets table is always my favorite part of the party to plan. I used aqua chevron fabric as well as red polka dot fabric for the backdrop and table linens. I painted a pair of custom frames I own in red to hang on the aqua chevron and placed photos of each baby in each frame. I accented each frame with a large “Thing 1” and “Thing 2” tag. For the center backdrop, and on the table, I made a red polka dot ruffled runner and placed it there since the cake was to be primarily in the blue. I found the custom fondant “Cat in the Hat”, “thing 1 & 2”, and “1” topper for sale on Etsy by an amazingly talented seller, Maria Paola, of “Paolascreations”. She even included (for free) the super cute custom fondant book which the “1” sat upon! Michele purchased the custom cake stand on etsy as well. The cupcakes were made with blue icing Thing 1 and Thing 2 styled “hair” then placed in red cupcake liners. I then attached my custom made “Thing 1” and “Thing 2” tags to the front of the cupcake liners. The smash cakes were simple and cute and were made by a friend of mine, Lisa Krause, who flew down and helped me set up the party. Maria Paola of Paolascreations also made the fondant letters to spell each baby’s name which were placed on each smash cake with a red “1” candle. I created 2 custom whimsical arrangements for the table which I placed on each side of the cake. I created red paper fans to attach behind my custom chevron candy labels. Gumballs, sixlets, rock candy, and swizzle sticks were placed in glass candy jars. I made white with red and aqua polka dot chocolate covered oreos as well as marshmallow pops to complete the table. I accented the marshmallow pops sticks with the hat cutouts from “Cat in the Hat” as well as ribbons. The last touch on the table were framed quotes from Dr. Seuss books. Balloons were then set on each side of the table.

Food and Drinks Table:
I created custom bi-fold tent cards for labeling each food. Michele served a veggie tray, “Truffula Fruit” tray, Goldfish crackers, sandwiches, cheese cubes, and chips and salsa. Drinks served were “New Blue Goo” aka Blue Hawaiian Punch and “Beezlenut Splash” aka Red Hawaiian Punch. I accented this table with chevron runners, custom toppers, framed quotes, framed photos of the babies, a custom centerpiece, and then hung a fabric covered “1” which I cut from a sheet of Styrofoam.

Highchairs:
I covered each highchair with aqua chevron fabric and then hung my custom “I am 1” birthday banners on the front of the trays. I created personalized cardstock birthday banners for each baby and hung them above the highchairs on the fence. There was a large paper fan topped with a large “B” hanging in between the two banners. I placed an accent table between each highchair with a framed sign and custom centerpiece to add more interest.

Other Décor:
For the tables for guests to sit at, I placed red tablecloths with aqua chevron runners. Two of these tables had centerpieces which I created out of candlesticks which I had spray painted red then attached “thing 1” and “thing 2” tags onto. I then attached a blue tissue pom onto the top of the candlesticks as these reminded me to the crazy hair of each of the “Things”. On the third table, I topped it with one of my custom whimsical centerpieces. Each chair was covered with a white chair cover. I also tied red and blue ribbons around the chairs to add color.

I hung paper lanterns under the covered patio and tied various red and blue ribbons from them. I created a pretty paper fan garland in the reds and aqua prints and hung it on the fence. I also created some fun “Seussville” arrow signs which I attached to a flag post and placed in the yard.

Games and Activities:
I created a “One fish, two fish, red fish, Let’s catch a fish!” game using Dr Seuss fish that I printed and cut out and attached paper clips too. We then made fishing poles out of wooden dowels and ribbon and attached a magnet to the end. The kids also enjoyed playing on the swing set in the yard as well as the playhouse.”

Dr. Seuss 1st Birthday Party

This darling DR SEUSS THEMED FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY was submitted by Nikka Morell of Triple M Good Parties! I just love all the clever ideas & decor! Nikka did such a good job on every detail!

Nikka said this about planning the party- “When my youngest of three kids turned one this summer, I knew it had to be fun. He is my only summer baby, so I finally got to plan a party outside. My 2 older kids were Thing 1 & Thing 2, and the birthday boy was Cat in the Hat.

I made all the decorations and food. It was fun to make things not so perfect, like an off centered cupcake stand and tall skinny candy jars.

I fell in love with the red, white and teal combination of colors. The ‘real’ Cat in the Hat came to read a book and the kids loved playing all the games, including pin the tail on Horton.”

Dr. Seuss 1st Birthday Party

Who out there is a big Dr. Seuss fan?! You will love this DR SEUSS THEMED 1ST BIRTHDAY PARTY submitted by Heidi Tranisi. This theme is just per fect for a child’s birthday party.

“We were very lucky to get an invitation to the Lorax premiere in LA at Universal Studios a few months ago and when we attended the “orange” carpet event our little Luca had the best time. This inspired me to use Dr. Seuss as the inspiration for his first birthday party. By the end of the decorating our house looked like Suessville! It was the best party; I think the adults had more fun than the children!” Dr Seuss party supplies available here.

Dr. Seuss Baby Shower

i hosted a dr seuss baby shower for my friend this past weekend! it was so fun to put together and plan! i just love dr. seuss.
i saw a dr. seuss shower thrown by amy @ stem parties a few months back and immediately wanted to throw one of my own!
here’s my green eggs and green cupcakes for the green eggs and ham display… here’s the back of the invite i made in photoshop {the front was the ‘oh the place’s you’ll go’ book cover with wording changed to, “oh the places she’ll go”}…I NOW SELL THIS INVITE AND A BOY VERSION ON EBAY. GO HERETO ORDER!
i got the idea for the thing 1 & thing 2 cupcakes from kitchen doughdough!! thanks lyndsey for the inspiration! aren’t they adorable?! the cupcakes were angel food cake, and the topping..cotton candy!…
the horton hears a who table….
i used pink pom poms for clovers! if you haven’t seen the movie or read the book then you wont understand the piles of “clovers” all over, hehe. i thought it turned out pretty cute though…. the horton diaper cake i made…
i made the fluffy clovers with styrofoam balls, pink frilly yarn, and wooden dowels {i painted them stripey with green and white spray paint}…
the little buttons are horton pins! and the little book says, ‘oh the places you’ll go’. i also found a little picture frame that had Horton’s famous line, “a person’s a person, no matter how small” on it! i immediately thought of an ultrasound picture when i bought it…i had whitney bring one of hers to put behind it. it was PERFECT! my front door…
inside the front door was mr. cat in the hat himself to welcome everyone…
a close up of the frame and book i was talking about…
and here’s a closer look at the horton cupcakes that were on the horton themed table. they were raspberry lemonade cupcakes with lemonade frosting and pink cotton candy for fluff! i made the horton toppers out of magnets!… and here’s a close up of the cat in the hat cupcakes i made. they were root beer cupcakes. **note to self: always try your cupcakes before serving them** i found the recipe for these babies online & thought it sounded pretty good, i even tried a spoonful of the batter after i made them & it was really yummy. but the actual cupcakes, blah! and the bad part was, i didn’t even try one until the day AFTER the shower! how embarrassing..hehe! hey, at least they looked cute, right? they’re suppose to be cat in the hat ‘hats’ if you can’t tell. i made them out of gummy savers, mint savers, and homemade white chocolate cookies…
the beverages were jones pure cane soda’s. the red and blue looked really good with all the decor. and the flavors were very dr. seussy…blue bubblegum and fufu berry! a close up of the key lime cupcakes {again, for recipe’s go to my cupcake blog} i made for the sam i am section of the table. the toppers…yup, magnets again. i hung these cute little hats from the ceiling… the adorable guest oh honor, whitney. isn’t she the cutest pregnant girl?!… i made cat in the hat parfaits :)… a tin lunch pail i had out…
i made a jumbo clover to go by horton. i also made a mini one for his trunk.
you can also see the miniature horton hears a who books. they were so cute, i love how tiny they were!…
some of the seussy‘ candy i served & some cat in the hat pencils…
i came up with the idea of hanging punching balls from the ceiling. they looked great in my opinion :)…
here’s the fish in his fish bowl {i got the idea from natalie at little shindigs!}.
i found some really cute shiney blue material that i used for water. and you can also see the fun red and blue gumballs i found on orientaltrading.com! they were perfect!… here’s a sneech and his stars along with more red and blue candy that was also found on ot {thanks for finding the sneech, mom!}… one fish, two fish!!
as i said in an earlier post, these fish straws couldn’t have been more perfect! everyone used the straws for their jones soda’s. so fun…
oh, and i also had one fish, two fish pins in a one fish, two fish bowl :)… i glued this plaque onto the top of a white feather tree… here’s the prizes for the dr. seuss trivia game we played.
there were dr. seuss paper pads, memo boards, markers, socks, magnets, stickers, pins, & more… i found all the adorable dr. seuss bowls at target {along with a bunch of other dr. seuss stuff}!…
little critter {whitney’s nephew} in his dr. seuss hat. so cute!!…
here’s the party favors. i got the, ‘here’s a little some THING to say thanks for coming’ from amy at stem parties as well!
i filled plastic gift bags with dr seuss items {a mini dr. seuss book or stickers, a dr. seuss character pin, and a dr. seuss pencil with a cute pencil topper} and tied them with the cute tags.
i bought the, oh the places you’ll go game to play. we didn’t end up playing it but it was still cute :)…
congratulations again, whitney! i hope you enjoyed your shower! i loved planning it for ya!
