Organic Green 40th Birthday Party Dessert Buffet

This ORGANIC GREEN FORTIETH BIRTHDAY PARTY DESSERT BUFFET was submitted by Melissa Fernandez of The Sweet Society in Australia.

I love the contrast of the natural burlap with the clean lines of the chevron print. It gives the party an unusual rustic modern vibe. A few of my favorite ideas in this organic green party are:
  • The ricrac trim and simple succulent embellishments on the crisp white fondant cake
  • The dogwood sugar flower cupcake toppers
  • The apothecary jars filled with whole walnuts
  • and MORE!

Here’s what Melissa said about planning the party- “I was very fortunate to be asked by Fran who owns the renowned Cake School in Melbourne, Australia, where some of the world’s best baker’s run the most amazing cake classes for aspiring bakers, to style her best friends 40th dessert buffet as a surprise for her.

The design brief was clean, organic, greens & succulents – Nati’s favourite.

Fran made the cake and called upon one of her friends, Julie from One Sweet Girl, to make the desserts.

The dessert buffet menu from these talented bakers consisted of a caramel mud cake with roasted, salted almonds, chocolate mud cake pops and mini cupcakes (which were delicious lemon flavor with vanilla bean buttercream topped with dogwood sugar flowers). There were also green mini vanilla bean meringues with silver glitter detail, iced vanilla bean cookies and salted caramel, pistachio and vanilla macarons.

I decided to use hessian in the paperie and add a little chevron pattern to add a layer to the styling. I also added wooden tea lights to add ambiance to the occasion. Nati is Uruguayan so they served a traditional Uruguayan BBQ for the main meal.

The surprise dessert buffet from Fran to Nati was a beautiful gesture of friendship and love.”

Here’s what Emily said about planning the party- “Ariella is our little winter baby, with her birthday falling in the first week of January. Even though we live in Los Angeles and it’s not technically freezing over here, I still loved the idea of making a ‘winter wonderland’ themed 1st birthday party for her. I’d seen quite a few winter wonderland parties floating around on the web, but I didn’t want recreate those typical winter parties with penguins, polar bears, and igloos. Instead, I had the idea in my head for a rustic/shabby chic winter wonderland party that still had the winter feel, but was a bit more girly & sophisticated. Just like our little girl! I was drawn to lots of burlap, lace, jute twine, and birch, and I mixed those elements with crocheted snowflakes, snow covered manzanita branches, and blush & cream colored roses.”

Winter Mint Holiday Christmas Party

What a fun HOLIDAY MINT WINTER CHRISTMAS PARTY submitted by Natalie Mudd of Wonderfully Made Events! Such a cute and clever holiday theme! When I think of anything ‘mint’ I definitely think of Christmas!

Natalie said this about planning the party- “This Winter ‘Mint’ Party was SO much fun to style and create. I LOVE the colors mint and red together so I decided to stick with the mint theme and create a bunch of mint treats for the dessert table.

For the decorations I used old vintage window panes, pine cones, old painted frames, pieces of wood, a vintage sleigh, a wreath, ornaments, flag pennants made out of scrapbook paper from Hobby Lobby & twine, washi tape by Martha Stewart used on drinking jars, and presents wrapped in paper from World Market.

The desserts included Chocolate fudge MINT Cupcakes, Homemade MINT Fudge, Vanilla MINT chocolate covered pretzels, Iced Mint Mocha fraps, Chocolate dipped MINTOreo’s, MINT Chip Ice cream, Pretzel MINT Chocolate rounds, Mint Fudge Chip Cake Pops and Mint Vanilla crème Mousse.”

Modern Kid-Friendly Thanksgiving Party + Table

Up next on KPI, a darling MODERN KID-FRIENDLY THANKSGIVING PARTY + TABLE submitted by Paula of Frog Prince Paperie! There are so many fabulous Thanksgiving decorating ideas here! Everything is just adorable! You can’t beat the printable set for just $10, too!

Paula said this about planning the party- “In years past, I’ve made a “kids’ table” for the children to sit at apart from the adults; banishing the kids to their own space works out well when there’s a big crowd gathering to eat. This year for a million reasons, it will be just my nuclear family for dinner. I imagine that we aren’t the only ones not seating for twenty, so I created some inspiration for those wanting a kid-friendly table that appeals to adults as well.

Never underestimate what you can do with a few yards of inexpensive fabric. While most of the supplies for our table came from my (rather extensive) fabric pile, I did pick up brown polka dot and brown thatch fabric on sale and created a backdrop by covering a canvas and a quick no-sew runner by ironing the hems.

Each place at the table was set with a fun plate topped with an orange napkin. The napkin was wrapped in burlap ribbon for texture and a thin orange satin ribbon for contrast. Our “We are so thankful” printables were a great accent. Silverware in turkey branded holders were a fun and colorful addition. Finishing the place settings were the busy boxes for the kids to play with and place cards. The place cards are a must have for kid tables – they love seeing their names and it an easy thing to do to make them feel extra special.

Occupied kids are happy kids. Once dinner is done, let them reach for a “busy box” at their place setting. We filled ours with crayons, playdough, and a Thanksgiving thankful turkey craft. It’s just enough to give them somthing to do while finishing dinner as a family.

Something new we tried this year (since my oldest can now read) were conversation starters. There were giggles all around at the table, so we’ve declared them a hit!

You can buy the printables seen in this party in our Etsy shop for just $10!”

Miranda said this about planning the party- “I was very excited when asked by Baby Lifestyles to create a Fall Baby Shower! I instantly had ideas of burlap and lace mixed with apples and pumpkins and then tea lights, rustic aspects everywhere and lots of sweets! I wanted something that could not only be used for a baby shower but also for a fall dessert table and possibly a simple fall bridal table. I love burlap and love using it in my parties so this was a perfect opportunity to use it!

My friend Sandra from Sandra Bludau Photography was instantly on board and even found us a spot to shoot!

I wanted to keep the printables simple so that if someone wanted it changed to say Thanksgiving then there was no problem doing so. I also wanted to create something more elegant and more adult like. I don’t know how many times I see the rubber duck and think of how I wish I could take over! I wanted shape to the printables as well instead of just your basic squares and rectangles and I believe I accomplished all of that.

I decided on a double invitation. Many times I run across clients wanting to more information on an invitation than can fit. This way there is plenty of room. All of the extra information can go onto the RSVP card!

I used my placement cards to label all food but not only for that, I thought it would be nice to put the vendors name below each treat. This is a great way for hostesses to also place names of the guest on for their place at a table or even as each guest enters they can find their card and make a “wish” for the baby to be. The mother can place this in a scrapbook or keep for future reading! I created the bunting with strips of burlap and lace with each piece tied with twine onto a long string of twine.

I used the smaller mason jars and placed a tea light in each one and topped with a daisy mason lid. The holes in the lid were perfect so that I could hang them with twin from the tree and they brought an extra touch to it all. I even strung lights on the top and bottom of the table.

Decorations consisted mainly of what I already use for décor in my own home. I have a very rustic feel to my house so it was pretty easy to pick and choose. I also love baskets and that was very simple since I wanted to incorporate baskets around the table. Pumpkins and apples were also placed throughout and since it’s not quite Fall here I found some realistic looking Fall Leaves to spread throughout.

Burlap was placed as a table runner and as well as the cover for the baskets and draped over the chair. I love lace as well and contacted my friend Mandy from Lacy Mae Designs and she happily sent me some baby clothes that were very frilly and lacy. I especially love the dress hanging from the chair and the ruffle butts I placed in the set up as well! These are items I use lots with my daughter and she loves dressing up in them! I always create a basket of gifts for the mother to be so decided to bring that into the shoot as well. Old family photos placed in a shadow box for the baby’s room, a shabby chic doll, ruffle onesie, and even a beautiful necklace!

I didn’t want to do a huge cake so opted out for a bunting cake that I could decorate with fondant leaves by Lynlee’s Petite Cakes who also created the baby onesies and bibs that were placed around the bell jar. I was so very excited to have a use for my bell jar! I was very fortunate to have some pretty awesome ladies ready to create the sweets that would coordinate with this theme. I even was fortunate enough to taste Brigadeiro for the first time and I don’t think an event would be complete without this tasty treat! I didn’t realize till afterwards though that I had made a mistake in the labeling of the cake pops. I accidentally switched the place cards of the ladies who created them and can not believe the mix up happened!!”
