Here’s what Leanne had to say about planning this party- “This was a lovely party we threw for my daughter Sienna and her best friend Tess at the beginning of the year. The girls had both asked for a pool party but Sienna’s birthday actually falls in August so we made the decision to postpone and have it closer to Tess’ birthday which was right in the middle of summer. Once the pool party idea was set we then wanted to come up with a cool theme to go with it so enter the retro pink flamingo!

Tash (Tess’ mum) is a super genius graphic designer so she came up with the amazing invitation and party stationery that set the tone for the entire day.  Both the girls love blue so we incorporated this into the colour theme – perfect also to tie in with the pool!

We set up three different tables – the dessert and candy table, the ice cream bar and the drinks station.

The Dessert and Candy table showcased the gorgeous cake by Jacki from Blissfully Sweet cakes.
I had also wanted to do something different to cake pops on sticks but still love the idea of cake balls. Jacki’s interpretation of the cake ball tower I asked for was just perfect!  Again the lovely ombre colour and a striking element to the table.  To finish with some more ombre, Jacki made delicious marshmallows that were a hit! Add in the candy and the table was complete and a big favourite on the day.

On the ice cream bar, very cute cupcakes that looked like ice cream sundaes meant we didn’t need to worry about melting ice cream. The jars were filled with ice cream cones and wafers for when we served the ice cream later in the party. The drinks station included a stunning drink dispenser filled with pink lemonade – perfect for the hot day!

We kicked off the party with a very cute photo booth that we created by painting an old door pink and white. The kids had so much fun picking a little prop from the basket to use while they had their photo taken and we got some fabulous shots to send to them as part of their thank you note.

Some other fun activities included a water balloon fight, lucky dips, glittery tattoos, nail painting and of course, loads of fun in the pool.

A little dressing room was created with our Ikea bookcase so that everybody had somewhere to store their bag and clothes while they were in the pool – the perfect way to prevent lost clothes and shoes.

Party favour boxes were made using mini ice-cream tubs which went great with our summer theme. The goodies inside included cute  ice cream themed stationery items and lip gloss.

I hope you have enjoyed all the little details that went into our fun pool party! It was fantastic to watch the kids have so much fun.”

Stephanie said this about planning the party- “My son, Carter’s, birthday was around the corner, and we have had this tradition since he was two of asking what kind of party he wants. Sometimes I cringe at the answer, but this time I could have picked him up and swung him around and kissed him!

He said he wanted a beach party. We are fortunate enough to live by the beach and we’re members of a beach club, which also has a pool, so this party was a no brainer for me!

The “Preppy Beach Party” inspiration came from what Carter loves to do in the summer…..living in his bathing suit, swimming, golfing, tennis, bbq’s, and playing baseball on the beach.

I set up a themed dessert table with a preppy beach vibe to it. The table featured wooden sailboats (big one from Home Goods, small ones from TweetToys), seersucker fabric as the tablecloth, and an overhead bunting made by gluing fabric triangles onto rope. I also made a “swim trunks” banner from fabric pieces and mini clothespins.

The desserts on the table were clear cups of blue jello with rainbow gummy fish, pretzel rods dipped in orange chocolate, and sugar cookies & cake (from Newport Sweet Shoppe). There was also a giant lollipop display on both sides of the table.

I wanted the guests to create a craft, so I had station with sailor-style hats made out of newspaper along with stickers and markers. The kids had fun decorating the hats to take home! Guests also took home appliqued t-shirts and rainbow gummy fish skewers.”

Mermaid Birthday Party

Today I am showcasing the cutest MERMAID BIRTHDAY PARTY submitted by Tami Goeckeritz of
Tami G. Photography. This party was actually the winner of my Summer Hostess Party Contest a few months back. Can you see why it got the most votes? So adorable. I love the vintage doors, the sand cake, the beach towel mermaid tails, the starfish sandwiches, the seahorse cookies, the “sea foam” cotton candy, the netting, the sand box & more! Tami did an amazing job!!
Here is what Tami said about the party- “Gwynn Wasson designed all of my cute printables, the invitations, banner, tiaras, name tags, Cotton Candy labels, cupcake wrappers and favor tags.  She worked so hard and designed exactly what I wanted!
Brittany, from Edible Details, designed my darling cupcake toppers, the darling mermaids and the sea shells. I seriously LOVED them, she did such a great job!!
My table cloth was made by Nan, from Pots and Pins.
The wooden mermaid sign was done by Michelle Tucker from The little design company.
The cake was done by my friend Mari.
The cupcakes and the sea shell cookies were made by my friend Melanie.
The embroidered names on the place mats were done by Carol at Top Stitch in downtown Modesto.
My mom made the adorable mermaid tales out of beach towels.

Surf’s Up Summer Pool Party!

Today’s winning party feature goes to this fantastic SURF’S UP BEACH PARTY submitted by Paisley Petal EventsSo cuteThe homemade wooden surf boards kill me! I love the orange, green and blue color scheme…and the M&M shots! The invitation is perfect {made by Chachke Designs}. This would be a great end of summer party {sigh}.
Photography by Laura Sheneman.
“For the main table, I used a white tablecloth with a simple blue net as an overlay to give it more of a beachy feel and created the “Hit the Beach” banner out of scrapbook paper.  I couldn’t find printables to match the theme/colors exactly, so I created the dessert labels myself using a digital paper design.  But, Sarah (who made the invitation) now has matching printables, so you can order everything for your party from her!”
“For the desserts, I went to my wonderful cake designer, Sprinklebelle Cakes, for some fondant surfboard and shark cupcakes.  I sent her a picture of the surfboards and just told her to make something that matched the colors, and as usual, I absolutely LOVED them!”

Summer Splash Beach, Pool Party

I love all the little tags and the darling fish image. All the party printables were made by Amber and can be purchased here.
