This is what Danielle said about the party- “Down the rabbit hole we go! You’re invited to the Mad Hatter Tea Party, for a very merry unbirthday celebration!
This whimsical Alice in Wonderland inspired collection is perfect for all the little daydreaming “Alices” in your life :-) Nothing could be more perfect for a merry unbirthday celebration then a tea party outside in the garden.
The table was adorned with the most gorgeous three-tiered white ruffled tablecloth from the super talented Christiana of Ruffled Linens on Etsy. The lush tablecloth set the stage to display all of the unbirthday treats.
Pink lemonade “tea” was served in mismatching teacups tagged with “Drink Me” labels. I purchased Jumbo teacups to display on mini saucers, and mini teacups to display on jumbo saucers, because in Alice’s world “everything is nonsense”.
Another nonsensical prop I purchased was an over-sized set of golden keys. The White Rabbit himself even shared in the fun; as a white Easter rabbit statue, propped on a petite chair. A whimsical teapot was found at my local Home Goods, accompanied by the LARGEST matching sugar bowl I have ever seen :-) This JUMBO bowl I filled with sugar and used as a display vessel for the incredibly adorable Mad Hatter marshmallow pops I made. Covered in green chocolate and pink sparkly sanding sugar, the pops were finished off with a white Chiclet, added to the brim and marked with the famous 10/6.
“Curiouser and Curiouser” cupcakes were displayed on brightly colored milk glass cake stands, adorned with the most AMAZING fondant toppers from Jenny of Parkers Flour Patch. These cute edible sculptures displayed topsy-turvy teapots, teacups spilling tea, and mad hatter hats.
The top tier of the cupcake tower displayed cupcakes adorned with handmade birthday candle cake pops. I made them to look similar to the candles displayed on the cake the Mad Hatter presents to Alice in the movie. Along with the candles were customized cupcake picks. Both toppers were haphazardly placed going in different directions, because in this wonderland everything is unsure of whether to go “this way or that way”!
Through the Looking glass chocolate lollipops were made using a vintage picture frame mold I found on Etsy, and displayed in a purple toothbrush holder.
The Luscious Loaf Bakery made the most delicious white chocolate ganache brownie squares. Covered in colored chocolate and adorned with edible flowers, these colorful confections were displayed on a mini tiered petit four stand labeled “Golden Afternoon Petit Fours”
“Down the Rabbit hole Cake pops” were made with a chocolate brownie base dusted in cookie crumbs. Atop the base was the White Rabbit’s bunny butt on his way down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland.
I made mini scalloped sugar cookies and added a white chocolate rose, hand painted with red food coloring gel displayed as “Paint the roses red cookies”.
Pale blue M&M’s contained in mini glass favor jars (Party City) were labeled with “Eat Me” tags. The “Doorknob” sign directed little guests to “Read the directions and directly you will be directed in the right direction”
Other candy confections included on the table were: Dodo’s fish Gummies- Swedish fish, Purple Chesire Cat vanishing rock candy, Catepillar Hooka Smoke cotton candy and Tweedle Dee and Twiddle Dum Dums.
Ikea’s Ung Drill picture frame was repainted pink and served as the looking glass welcome sign. The birthday banner read “Very Merry Unbirthday”
Little daydreamers were given mini boxes shaped like books filled with colorful flower shaped chocolates. I made these with a flower shaped ice cube tray :-) The tags read “Thanks for going mad with us!”
I always create coordinating party circles for each of my collections. This time I used the character circles as centerpiece picks. The customized 4 inch circles I displayed on the colorful paper lanterns hung from the trees in the yard.

This darling ALICE IN WONDERLAND NINTH UN-BIRTHDAY TEA PARTY was submitted by Stephanie Henning of Bella Bella Studios. Oh wow, just look at the details! Stephanie must have spent so much time creating this party!
Stephanie said this about planning the party- “I recently had the opportunity to design and create a party for one of my favorite clients, my sweet daughter~Gigianna. We created an Alice in Wonderland Tea Party. This whimsical party included all vintage china and accessories, hand made Mad Hatter Hats on Headbands, “Eat Me” and “Drink Me” personalized pennants, tags, and labels, I used a design from one of my Bella Bella Studios collections for Invitations, Thank You Cards, gift tags, labels, cupcake toppers, and all signs. A chandelier that was one of the centerpieces was embellished with branches, twigs, floral greenery, flowers, crystals and vintage feathers. Hanging from this whimsical chandelier was a handmade hot air balloon with Alice and the White Rabbit riding in the glittered basket surrounded by vintage flowers and feathers. This hot air balloon was topped off with a Happy Birthday Gigianna banner.
Each little guest was served petite floral cookie cutter sandwiches adorned with a “Eat Me” pennant flag , fruit kabobs of grapes, watermelon, cantaloupe, and strawberries, mini cheese balls in cute little cupcake liners, and a sweet mini tea cup filled with colorful jello topped with whip cream and sprinkles. The guests were served blushing pink strawberry lemonade out of vintage tea pots. The dessert table was filled with beautiful glass jars filled with colorful candies (sweet tarts, skittles, laffy taffy, dum dum suckers, and cotton candy). Guests filled goodie bags with these sweet treats to take home. Other desserts were cupcakes loaded with my own fondant recipe I used to make Alice in Wonderland trinkets (tea pots, tea cups and saucers, mad hatter hats, clocks, flowers, hearts, playing cards,etc.) the cupcakes also included cupcake toppers and tags by Bella Bella Studios, and other decorative accents. The guests could also snack on rice krispy treats covered with sprinkles, creamy frosting covered cookies in bright pink, turquoise blue and white all with sprinkles. There were also “Macarons” …. well, almost ;) I was running short on time and did not have time to take on the adventure of baking macarons for the first time. So, I created a cookie that looked similar to macarons. I made batches of vanilla chocolate and colored it in 4 rich colors of pink, blue, yellow and green. II dipped vanilla Oreo cookies into the chocolate on each side and out came a very pretty …”macaron”. Not only, did they look pretty, they tasted really good. The cake was also designed and embellished by me. I made fondant, and topped the cake with a fondant tea party setting, a tea pot on top of a pink table cloth of decorated fondant. Above the cake was a mini tissue garland banner I made personalized with a mini pennant flag just for my daughter. I loved this little extra touch to the cake. Of course, an Alice in Wonderland figu rine was on the cake too.
The guests played a game of “I Remember”… based on the classic tray game. They also did a fun activity of filling little bottles with colorful sand art, and decorating their bottles with glittery ribbons, rhinestones, stickers, and an Alice in Wonderland sticker by Bella Bella Studios. The guests also made bottle cap necklaces which was an enjoyable experience for the guests. The centerpiece design for the bottle cap necklace was a photo of Alice in Wonderland designed by Bella Bella Studios. The guests left the tea party with their personalized mad hatter hats, their sand bottle creation, the bottle cap necklace and a tea cup filled with my version of macarons all wrapped up in a pretty box topped with sparkly ribbon and a personalized Alice in Wonderland tags by Bella Bella Studios. I poured my heart and soul into this party, and in the end, it was all worth it!”

How darling is this MOMMY AND ME MAD HATTER TEA PARTY submitted by Heidi of Ira & Lucy! What a fun idea…host a mother daughter play-date / tea party!
Heidi said- “This Mommy & Me Mad Hatter Tea Party came to life when I volunteered to the mommies in my mommy group that I would LOVE to design, style and prop a kid-themed party. Mom of twins, Kate, immediately emailed me that she had always wanted to do an Alice In Wonderland themed party. So, Judy and I jumped at the chance to design the event and let’s just say we had a blast!
We thought that bold colors best displayed the wonderland’s exotic “mad” color scheme. With peacock feathers as the perfect color combination, we headed to our local craft stores and selected feathers of blues, purples, teals and golds along with vibrant bold silk flowers. We opted for silk flowers, that could be sturdy and “baby resistant” in case some were snatched up by little fingers.
In keeping with the “Mad Hatter” style, the table was set with our mismatched china, ornate plate chargers, vintage silverware, lace doilies, custom made table runners and china dessert stands. Judy did an amazing job making the china plate dessert stands, runners and pillows! We up-cycled old glass bowls, plates and vases into wonderland mushrooms. This had to have been one of the most fun details we designed! Of course, any opportunity to spray paint and we’re all for it! Don’t they look fab?!
Yes, Ira & Lucy is primarily a Vintage Prop Rental business, but as you can see we LOVE designing the whole event! Hand sewing these Alice Aprons and Little Boy Bow Tie Vest onesies made for great gifts for all the mommies and added the perfect finishing touch. The stool the twins are sitting on, fondly named Toby, is a great piece for events. We’ve designed it with a removable cover just in case our clients want a different color/pattern. Athena, the shabby chic dining table works for so many occasions. I can’t wait to see her as the head table for a bridal party. View our furniture inventory (here). Architectural elements, such as our vintage doors represented the beginning scenes of Alice’s journey into Wonderland.”

Elise said- “This was the Mad Hatter Tea Party I designed for my daughter’s 7th birthday. After being rained-out and then postponed, the party finally went ahead. Although I had plans for it being a beautiful garden party, it had to be held under cover as the ground was too wet and mushy. But, we got there in the end and a lovely time was had by all.
The design I had in mind was a very modern interpretation of the Alice in Wonderland and Mad Hatter theme. I contrasted a modern Chevron pattern with vintage silverware pieces like the candelabra, and silver teapots and decanters. The beautiful gold tea set really made the whole table ‘pop’ and I was so lucky I found bits and pieces of this set at flea markets and on eBay to put together.
The party itself was a lot of fun with ‘old school’ activities and games like sack races, pass-the-parcel, horse rides, a photo booth (with printable Alice in Wonderland props) and croquet! Yes, I even found a croquet set on eBay! All the guests received coordinating ribbon wands, which I made, trimmed with name tags, which come as an editable PDF file in this printable set.
Food included vanilla cupcakes, layered jellies, teapot and teacup cookies, assorted candies, lollipops, cake pops and ice cream – which I made myself (apart from the ice cream!).
