Halloween Trick or Treat Party

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! This fabulous HALLOWEEN TRICK OR TREAT PARTY was submitted by Karen Ayars! Such a darling set up! I love how the whole party was on a front porch….very fitting!

This is what Karen said about planning the party- “I did a VERY simple Halloween table this year. I wanted to make something affordable and easy that anybody could reproduce. We always set up a big Halloween table on Halloween night for the trick or treaters and many people in our town do too, so I wanted to do something that could be used on a porch on Halloween night. Most decoration items are from the dollar store like the signs, the skull, the RIP pieces, keep out tape, spider cut outs, spider webs on the table, happy halloween mat on the floor, tomb stone candy, monster cookie on sticks (inside the black caldron). The treats I also kept simple: cupcakes decorated with supermarket bought decor, candy, lollipops and rock candy at the local candy store, apple juice, and because I’m Brazilian there has to be some brigadeiro somewhere… and that’s what’s inside the little plastic containers with Oreo crumbles on top and an edible RIP sign from Wal-Mart.”

Mexican “Day of the Dead” Halloween Party

How awesome is this MEXICAN “DAY OF THE DEAD” HALLOWEEN PARTY submitted by Nikki Wills of Tikkido!

Nikki said- “The Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a traditional Mexican celebration, and immediately follows Halloween. It, like Halloween, features lots of skeletons and imagery of death, but it is a colorful, vibrant, and FUN celebration of life and a way to honor and remember those who have passed. Altars of photos of dead family members, their favorite foods, skeleton figurines, and colorful marigolds are built. Feasts are cooked and eaten. Music, dancing, parades, laughter–all bringing back and sharing happy memories of those we’ve lost. It’s a beautiful tradition.

At our Day of the Dead party, we served marigold tossed salad. (Did you know that marigolds are not only edible, but delicious? And absolutely gorgeous in a green salad.) We also served freshly made tortilla chips, sweet corn guacamole, shredded chicken, carnitas, and sweet corn tomalito.

Desserts are always important at our parties, too! We served Pan de Muerto (bread of the dead, a traditional Dia de los Muertos pastry), churros, conchas, tres leches trifle, pumpkin empanadas, sugar cookies (decorated as marigolds and sugar skulls), and the traditional, wildly decorated sugar skulls.

For drinks we served horchata, margaritas, mexican beers, mexican sodas, and a signature cocktail I created for this party, the Marigold Muerte. It tasted light, citrusy, and refreshing, but was sneak-up-on-you strong. I named it the “Marigold Death” for a reason!

DIY crafts/projects for this party included:
stamped “tin” napkin rings
paper placemats painted in colorful ombre stripes reminiscent of serape blankets
Glass plates embellished with papel picado style tissue paper cutouts
glowing photo candle holders/frames of those we love and wished to remember on this day.
lace-appliqued balloons
papel picado and fringe tissue banners
makeup for our Catrina (traditional female skeletal character at these celebrations)
sculpted skeletons of people and pets
the cut paper candle holders
miniature tissue paper flower decorations (for the table tents, straws, etc.)
all the food (except the tortilla chips, carnitas, conchas, and churros, which were bought at a local Latin american market)
I’m the photographer, too!

As you can tell, I love DIY affairs.”

‘The Witch Is In’ Children’s Halloween Party

This adorable ‘THE WITCH IS IN’ CHILDREN’S HALLOWEEN PARTY was submitted by Cris McGrath of Crissy’s Crafts.

Cris said- “For Halloween this year, we had a party with the theme “The Witch is In”. It was loaded with easy and affordable sweets. I truly believe that you don’t have to spend tons of money to have some fun, you just need to be creative! With that in mind, many of our sweets were store bought things that got a makeover. ;)

Before our witches hit the sweet table, they enjoyed some delicious witches’ brew sandwiches and edible brooms (cheese stick and pretzels). Some of our treats were cotton candy brew, cauldron cake pops, witch hats (chocolate covered cookies with a kiss on top), witch pops (dressed up Dum Dum lollipops), toads (chocolate frogs), wicked witch’s rings (lollipop rings), sweet brooms (mini Reese’s and pretzels) and witch’s chocolate fingers, to name a few.

As for activities, we played witches freeze dance, musical chairs and Bingo. Our witches had a blast!”

Vintage Halloween Party

I am in LOVE with this VINTAGE HALLOWEEN PARTY was submitted by Jessica Roberts of Quilted Polka Dot!

Jessica said- “Halloween is one of my faves but it can get a little too cheesy for my taste… So I designed a party with all things lovely and vintage for this spooky holiday! I love using old things and giving new things that old feel. I also like to throw in the unexpected – like a beautiful pumpkin instead of a cake, mason jars with vinyl mustache stickers to be used again for another stache bash, and a bench instead of a table to serve all the goodies on! A great combination of old, new, unpredicted and function!”
