Car Themed 2nd Birthday Party

This modern CAR THEMED SECOND BIRTHDAY PARTY was submitted by Melissa of The Cake Boutique.

Some of my favorite ideas in this car themed party are:

The popcorn served in cupcake liners since smaller portions were needed
The black favor bags made to resemble a road
The fruit kebabs threaded onto plastic straws- a safer option for little guests

This is what Melissa said about planning the party- “My son, Finley, turned two and we threw him a car themed party (his two favourite words are Cake and Car), styled around his birthday gift, a red ride-on retro tin car. We wanted it to be bright and clean, so stuck to a red colour palette with accents of blue. Grey chevrons provided a fun geometric backdrop which we repeated in the cake design. The gorgeous paperie was custom made to incorporate the theme. Guests enjoyed a variety of motor themed sweets and treats, including vanilla bean cupcakes, Mint Chocolate marshmallow tires, Jelly Fuel, Nuts and Bolts popcorn, Road sign chocolates and custom made Belgian chocolate cars.

The conservatory was converted into a mini race track with toy cars and ride-on vehicles for the kids to play with and the ceiling was strung with giant balloons in the main party colours.

The tiny guests were given a custom made Road party bag filled with toy cars, car shaped chocolates and a car bath squirter.”

Gone Fishin’ Themed Birthday Party

This is what Annina said about planning the party- “I planned this Gone Fishin’ Party for my brother’s small family birthday party. He and my father are avid fishermen, and spend as much time as possible out on the lake fishing for bass. So I thought it would be fun to create a party with edible details related to fishing! This would also be a wonderful party idea for father’s day, if Dad likes to fish.

The cupcakes are made of chocolate with a milk chocolate buttercream. I crushed up some chocolate cookies for the “Dirt”.

For the “bait buckets” I created a printable galvanized bucket template based off of a cupcake wrapper template. I hooked some craft wire through each side for the “handle”. The “bait” is sour gummy worms.

For the fishing pole cupcakes I used a pretzel as the rod and hooked on a goldfish with some craft wire. The “water” was made from blue candy pearls.

The cupcakes are displayed on some unfinished wood crates. I thought they fit in with the rustic lake theme of the party.

In the buckets beside the banner I set up some “bobber” cake pops in a styrofoam ball covered with goldfish.

I finished off the table with some Swedish Fish and gummy worms in mason jars. The bottles are IBC root beer, a favorite of both my dad and brother. To balance everything out, I filled some apothecary jars with rainbow goldfish.

The fish banner includes a bass, trout, and catfish that I designed, printed, cut out, and attached to the twine with craft wire made to look like fishing hooks. I also designed and printed the sign. All of the paper elements- fish banner, sign, cupcake wrappers, toppers, tags, and “bait bucket” wrappers- are available to purchase in my Etsy shop as printable templates.”

Spy Themed Secret Agent 11th Birthday Party

This unique SPY THEMED ELEVENTH BIRTHDAY PARTY was submitted by Michelle Paige.

Here’s what Michelle said about planning the party- “As my son gets older, parties get a bit harder to plan and organize. This year my 11 year old requested a SPY Party. We went with a black and red theme. Laser beams were created with red crepe paper. Magnifying glasses, dark shades and secret agent notebooks set the scene. The bomb cake was made using a sports ball cake mold, covered in marshmallow fondant. The fuse is black licorice. The snacks were given cool spy titles like: explosives, dynamite sticks, laser hot bullets and packets of adrenaline.

The boys enjoyed the activities of deciphering codes and being sent on ‘missions’ to locate the missing weapons and ammunition (NERF guns). All clues were typed in size 2 font, requiring the use of a magnifying glass. I even put clues inside the fortune cookies. One of the favorite activities was the laser beam training. The boys challenged themselves to crawl through the beams (crepe paper) without touching them. Target practice and free shooting were also hits.”

Here’s what Lauren said about planning the party- “I love a good superhero birthday party! When Katie mentioned her little guy was all about Super Why and wanted a classic – red, blue and yellow – superhero party, I was pumped!! All of the printables were from my Superhero collection and I came up with a few new designs for their special day. A 20×30 personalized poster and a 11×17 personalized sign along with straw flags have all been added to the Superhero collection!

We used plastic tablecloths to drape behind the poster and the cityscape. They are so cheap and really make an impact! The poster print was from Office Depot and the city scape was made from black foam board with white stickers. Another inexpensive way to make really fun decor is to add the tissue fringe and you can’t go wrong with LOTS of balloons!!

The day could not have been more perfect… the kids had so much fun in the Batman bounce house. And everyone went home with their very own superhero cape.

Guests enjoyed POPcorn, vanilla cupcakes, rice krispy pops, colorful marshmallow pops, and lots of colorful candy. There were lots of fun details… most of them involved tissue fringe.”

Peter Pan Themed 4th Birthday Party

This is what Kenna said about planning the party- “I threw this party for my son after a year of him talking about his “Peter Pan 4th Birthday Party” (he’s definitely the son of a party planner!). He pitched me a lot of ideas, including the cake with flying characters! I love how much he is in to Peter Pan so I really wanted to try and turn our backyard in to a Never Land the best I could. We had a wood cut Scull Rock, turned our play structure in to Captain Hook’s ship, had a water table as our Mermaid Lagoon, an official tee pee Indian Camp, a tarped out Crocodile Creek (with a blow up croc!) and improvised with “Peter Pan and the Lost Boy’s Pub” (the kids eating area). I hand made my kids costumes, (Peter Pan and Tinkerbell) and my son loved yielding his sword!

Some of my favorite decorations were the mini favor bottles, Pixie Dust for the girls and a Never Land Treasure Map for the boys…the kids really loved them and they were the first to go. I hand made all of the character favor bags- which were another favorite.

We had a treasure hunt where kids took the maps from their place settings at their food tables and set out to hunt down X’s, which they then turned in for pirate treasure! We also had a treasure chest pinata full of candy and jewels!

I wanted the entrance in to the backyard to be the Darling Nursery so I designed the dessert table to look like you could be right in their nursery! This was fun. I had a striped backdrop from another party so we hung this up on a PVC frame as the wall and went from there. Our Darling bed had a “cupcake quilt” on it, and vases full of Tinkerbell Wand Cake Pops” and “Peter Pan Oreo Pops” The table focused on the window scene in Peter Pan and I used my son’s Peter Pan plush dolls for this- which he loved.

The sign pointing to each “land” was a combined effort between my husband- who built it, my friend Hannah who did the illustrations and I did all of the lettering. It cost us nothing as we used scrap wood and already had the paints!

“Peter Pan & The Lost Boys Pub” was a large piece of wood set upon some palettes and draped with burlap. My husband cut up a tree stump and seating for 14 was born!

The cellophane rainbow was a friend’s idea and wasn’t as hard as I imagined it would be to make. We put some batting for clouds at the bottom and our ‘Welcome to Never Never Land’ scroll sign in the middle to welcome everyone in.”
