Organic Green 40th Birthday Party Dessert Buffet

This ORGANIC GREEN FORTIETH BIRTHDAY PARTY DESSERT BUFFET was submitted by Melissa Fernandez of The Sweet Society in Australia.

I love the contrast of the natural burlap with the clean lines of the chevron print. It gives the party an unusual rustic modern vibe. A few of my favorite ideas in this organic green party are:
  • The ricrac trim and simple succulent embellishments on the crisp white fondant cake
  • The dogwood sugar flower cupcake toppers
  • The apothecary jars filled with whole walnuts
  • and MORE!

Here’s what Melissa said about planning the party- “I was very fortunate to be asked by Fran who owns the renowned Cake School in Melbourne, Australia, where some of the world’s best baker’s run the most amazing cake classes for aspiring bakers, to style her best friends 40th dessert buffet as a surprise for her.

The design brief was clean, organic, greens & succulents – Nati’s favourite.

Fran made the cake and called upon one of her friends, Julie from One Sweet Girl, to make the desserts.

The dessert buffet menu from these talented bakers consisted of a caramel mud cake with roasted, salted almonds, chocolate mud cake pops and mini cupcakes (which were delicious lemon flavor with vanilla bean buttercream topped with dogwood sugar flowers). There were also green mini vanilla bean meringues with silver glitter detail, iced vanilla bean cookies and salted caramel, pistachio and vanilla macarons.

I decided to use hessian in the paperie and add a little chevron pattern to add a layer to the styling. I also added wooden tea lights to add ambiance to the occasion. Nati is Uruguayan so they served a traditional Uruguayan BBQ for the main meal.

The surprise dessert buffet from Fran to Nati was a beautiful gesture of friendship and love.”

Here’s what Charlene said about the party- “Planning my 30th birthday was interesting. I really wanted it to be a little different and whimsical. I have been fond of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland since I was younger, and I really liked the Tim Burton Version of it as well. I love mushrooms and funky objects so what better theme than this? I love the vintage look and bright colors somehow combined well together. All the party props and decor were provided by www.chakodadesign.com so that part was pretty easy!

Sweet tooth by Abby, made my delicious pastries, the cutest cake pops, and just beautifully detailed Eat me cookies, and playing cards! So talented! I’m jealous of all her wonderful ability to bake and make it look like a piece of art. My photographer Angel (Angel G Photography) was brilliant in capturing the smallest details that were really important to me, and all the effort I put into this design setup! Thank you Angel for putting this day and all my memories in a bottle for years to remember. My photobooth was by Party4beauty- Crystal was such a sweetheart, and much fun to work with. She customized my prints exactly like the design on my invitation for guests to take home. Photobooths are so much fun to have at any event, they really bring out the silliness in the quietest or most shy person. I love them!

I always like to set up at least 2 days beforehand especially since there were a lot of large items I was going to display, however with the unexpected rain, I couldn’t place any of my items out, which really made me kind of nervous. I waited until the next day to see if the rain had dried out most of my yard, only to find that it had rained the whole night before. I now started to panic! My backyard was a muddy swamp. I knew I had to move quickly with plan B (no idea whatsoever). Well, common sense was to put up canopy tents so that my guests would not get wet! I can’t handle looking at plastic tents, so I tried to cover up the inside with a backdrop.

Before I knew it it was almost 6pm! I hurried to call my hairstylist to see what time she would come, little to find out that she had to take her mom to the emergency room, due to some pain she was having. She cancelled on me! I didn’t think things could get worse, as it started to pour rain. I was feeling like I was going to pass out on the floor and then wake up to have a nervous breakdown after! I finally snapped out of it, jumped in the shower and tried to put myself together. One of my friends came to the rescue to put the faux eyelashes on me. (thanks Raquel). When I finally was ready, the DJ had already gotten there and finished setting up, and the photographer was already snapping away at all my party! Things felt a little better! Guests started to arrive. I could breathe again. The night was a success despite the rain. My guests had a blast taking pictures at the photobooth, with the props that were set out. We danced the night away. After midnight, the music ended, (being courteous to my neighbors) bringing the party inside and continuing until 4:30 in the morning. I thought that was something people just say to describe the party as crazy! However a lot of my guests actually really left at that time. You have to remember that I’m the mommy of a 3 year old, so things are a lot different than my prior life. All my guests and vendors absolutely loved the party and design setup! A couple of my vendors said that it was the best party they had ever been to and it was “theme park status”. Wow, I was so excited! My birthday was over -I and many of my friends will remember this for a long time! (I guess I really got what I wanted- my 30th birthday was actually crazy) next time I will be a little bit more specific to what I actually want. My march hare and I ended the night cuddled together. That was definately a night to remember with all the unexpected craziness! I really hope you enjoy reading my adventure and I loved sharing it with all of you.”

This is what Katie said about planning the party- “A movie party theme was inspired out of necessity! We have a large group of friends and family and I had to come up with a theme that would entertain and accommodate a February indoor party for 50 guests, 25 of them children between the ages of 4-6. With a goal to wow my guests (b/c I do style parties for a living), make it fun for both big and little guests, and keep it fuss-free, I split our party onto two levels to keep the crowd flowing. I found traditional red, white, and black movie party printables on Etsy, but since this party was for a girl, I wanted to add in a tad bit of girly and decided to throw in pops of yellow. And, as a party stylist with a room full of props, I incorporated many of the party décor pieces I already had on hand, which turned this theme into a Vintage Movie Party.

Now, who doesn’t love movie snacks? This was such a hit for the birthday girl and all her friends. I created a movie concession stand stocked with fresh popped popcorn, jumbo salted pretzels, a selection of candy (mini sized of course), popcorn pops, cupcakes, and beverages. Just like the movies, our little guests got in line and each received a snack caddy, which they then filled with whatever movie treats they wanted. On the way down to the “movie theatre”, each guest grabbed a sheet and took a seat in front of the big screen. While the children were entertained downstairs, our adult guests were able to relax, mingle and enjoy the bar and restocked concession stand upstairs.”

Las Vegas Themed Birthday Party

This super creative LAS VEGAS THEMED BIRTHDAY PARTY was submitted by Debbie of Wants and Wishes. This party looks like it was so much fun and has so many creative Vegas-centered ideas. Not only is it a great theme for a birthday party but it would also be fun for a girls’ night out, a bachelorette party, or an over-the-hill party!

There are so many fun ideas here! A few of my favorite elements of this Las Vegas themed party are:
The martini olive cake pops
The dice patterned favor boxes
The cookies shaped like different playing card suits
and MORE!

This is what Debbie said about planning the party- “Welcome to my fabulous midlife crisis birthday party…. Vegas Style. A few close friends and I joke that we are going through a pre midlife crisis, so when my birthday come around this year I thought it would be fun to have a midlife crisis party and also incorporate Vegas. I absolutely LOVE how it turned out and  everyone had a great gambling and munching at the “Lost Ages” buffet. The party’s saying was “What happens at Debbie’s party- stays at Debbie’s birthday party”.
For the atmosphere I wanted it to fee like a hotel & casino…. the “Lost Ages” Hotel and Casino. I was playing off of Lost Wages, as that is what some people call Vegas, but wanted to stick with the Ages/ Midlife crisis theme still. I set up tables for game playing and I wanted them to look like real gambling tables so they had green felt on the top and red skirting. This also matched the dessert table.

The dessert bar had a large backdrop poster of the famous Vegas Sign…. Welcome to my fabulous midlife crisis. We has so many fun sweets and treats. I made Sprinkles Bakes Peanut Butter Cup Chocolate Cake Cheesecake! It was so incredibly delicious! We decorated it with king and queen toppers and chocolate poker chips that I homemade. We also had sugar cookies and chocolate chip cookies in the shapes of all four playing card suits. The chocolate chip cookies were packaged in favor bags and we made ice cream sandwiches out of them later on in the party. There were also Elvis cupcakes (which have banana and peanut butter frosting with bacon bits in banana cupcake batter), homemade marshmallow “dice”, red Liquor-ish, little shot glasses of Chicklets (they looked like bingo balls) and my favorite dessert… olive cake pops. I took an over-sized martini glass filled with red candy, then displayed the “olive” cake pops in there! It was the hit of the night for sure! We had dice patterned favor boxes for the guests to fill up with treats and take home.

For favors, I made little note pads like you would find in a hotel room that said ‘Lost Ages, Hotel and Casino’ at the top and ‘What happens at Debbie’s birthday- stays at Debbie’s birthday’ at the bottom. These were also placed at every game table and we used them to keep score for some of the games.

The buffet had a vegetable and fruit platter, chips and my favorite olive dip, rice, squash and zucchini, sweet pepper sliced chicken and sliced steak and rolls.”
