Organic Green 40th Birthday Party Dessert Buffet

This ORGANIC GREEN FORTIETH BIRTHDAY PARTY DESSERT BUFFET was submitted by Melissa Fernandez of The Sweet Society in Australia.

I love the contrast of the natural burlap with the clean lines of the chevron print. It gives the party an unusual rustic modern vibe. A few of my favorite ideas in this organic green party are:
  • The ricrac trim and simple succulent embellishments on the crisp white fondant cake
  • The dogwood sugar flower cupcake toppers
  • The apothecary jars filled with whole walnuts
  • and MORE!

Here’s what Melissa said about planning the party- “I was very fortunate to be asked by Fran who owns the renowned Cake School in Melbourne, Australia, where some of the world’s best baker’s run the most amazing cake classes for aspiring bakers, to style her best friends 40th dessert buffet as a surprise for her.

The design brief was clean, organic, greens & succulents – Nati’s favourite.

Fran made the cake and called upon one of her friends, Julie from One Sweet Girl, to make the desserts.

The dessert buffet menu from these talented bakers consisted of a caramel mud cake with roasted, salted almonds, chocolate mud cake pops and mini cupcakes (which were delicious lemon flavor with vanilla bean buttercream topped with dogwood sugar flowers). There were also green mini vanilla bean meringues with silver glitter detail, iced vanilla bean cookies and salted caramel, pistachio and vanilla macarons.

I decided to use hessian in the paperie and add a little chevron pattern to add a layer to the styling. I also added wooden tea lights to add ambiance to the occasion. Nati is Uruguayan so they served a traditional Uruguayan BBQ for the main meal.

The surprise dessert buffet from Fran to Nati was a beautiful gesture of friendship and love.”

Live at FIVE Anchorman News Themed Birthday Party

Live at FIVE anchorman NEWS themed birthday party via Kara's Party Idesa | KarasPartyIdeas.com

This stellar LIVE AT FIVE ANCHORMAN NEWS THEMED BIRTHDAY PARTY was submitted by Brittany Schwaigert of GreyGrey Designs.

There are so many creative, fabulous ideas in this anchorman themed party! This theme would also be so fun for a retirement or over the hill party.

A few of the things I like the best in this party are:
  • The retro TV shaped cake
  • The microphone favor boxes with tie shaped tags
  • The anchorman photo op
  • and MORE!

Here’s what Brittany said about planning the party- “When I was brainstorming my big guy’s 5th birthday, I really wanted to play on the word “five.” So, after tossing around several ideas with my sister and her hubs, he suggested Live at Five. Since we are all huge fans of Anchorman, I immediately jumped on this! I wanted to give it a retro spin, and harken back to the classic news anchors of days past. And, since we call him Grey, even though his name is Greyson, the four letters were a perfect fit for the call letters of a news station.

One of the first people I contacted when I was first planning this party was Piggy Bank Parties. I knew that they could absolutely kill it when it came to the printables. And, of course, they did not disappoint. Do sent over this absolutely amazing invitation using the call letters logo! I got so many texts and emails about how cute this invitation was!

If you follow my parties for my boys, you know that I always have to do a big-impact piece for my entryway. This year, I made the call letters of the news station out of a large piece of cardboard and some paint. I printed the letters out from my computer and mod-podged them onto the signs. I spray painted the five with silver paint to make it reflect.

My idea for the food table was for it to be a news desk. So, I ordered a corrugated cardboard from Shindigz and rolled it around the table to make it look solid. Then, I customized an  awesome Brooklyn Bridge backdrop from Shindigz with a logo to make it look like a news studio backdrop. That was probably my favorite part of the entire party.

For the food, I wanted some unique serving pieces, so I bought video tapes at Goodwill for $1 a piece and glued them all together to make stands. Then, I printed out our station call letters and taped them to the videos. A simple clear plate on top and you’ve got yourself a stand!  Some of the food items were Chic-Fil-A wraps (“That’s a Wrap!”) and Nuggets (“Sound Bites”). I also
came up with microphone meatballs! They were breadsticks with meatballs which I served with marinara sauce. And what’s the news without coffee and doughnuts? I found a coffee cup planter at Lowe’s months ago and used it to display the doughnuts on skewers.

The phenomenal TV cake is from Mad Lily Cakery. I gasped when I saw it! The airbrushed woodgrain on the sides was my favorite part. It was the perfect retro touch! And guests couldn’t believe it was the cake! Plus, it was delicious!

For the favor table, I created a weather forecast for the backdrop. I hand painted it and it took several hours, but it was totally worth it. Several people asked me if this was the actual forecast for the week. And trust me, that weather outlook is pretty typical for Memphis! I knew I wanted Piggy Bank Parties to do their microphone favor box for me, because it is awesome. And I asked them to add a little “box” around it for the call letters. They turned out amazing! And they even did a little tie tag for me too! The detail on the mic is so awesome! I filled them with dum-dums for the kiddos.

Greyson’s birthday shirt is by my extremely talented friend, Mollie at Personally Stitched. She blew my mind this time by replicating the call letters! She is so great!”

New York Themed 40th Birthday Party

This fabulous NEW YORK THEMED BIRTHDAY PARTY was submitted by Natalia Gerolamo of Laços e Açúcar. Such a fun party theme! This would be perfect for so many occasions!

Natalia said this about planning the party- “My client was turning 40 years old and he wanted something that was not so teenager but also that  was fun!!! Then we decided together NY Theme. He lived in NYC for 10 years and it’s still his favorite place. We tried to bring to the party details of the city such as the cosmopolitan drink that we created a version of brazilian sweet, but in a Cosmopolitan form. Everything was edible, even the lime. As he loved basketball we created a “lounge” with basketball sweets and we used small balls. The cookies were designed as NYC street signs. The chocolate bars were the NYC subway signs and the chocolate truffle was the apples. The yellow cabs were edible too. They are a very famous brazilian sweet called Pão de Mel (honey bread). We also used a NY Times newspaper as background. The cake was the skyline of NY plus everything that we can find in the CITY. We also had the Empire State Chocolate and everyone loved so much.”

Jewelry Themed Surprise Birthday Luncheon Party

This beautiful JEWELRY THEMED SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY LUNCHEON was submitted by Alexandra Doudian of Enchanted Events & Design. Alexandra was asked to design an event for her client’s mother, who unfortunately, was robbed 2 weeks before her birthday and 4 generations of jewelry was stolen! Her client decided to throw a jewelry themed surprise luncheon for her mom. She asked all of the guests to bring one pair of earrings as a gift for the birthday girl. What a tender idea!

Alexandra said- “I was very inspired by this story and pulled together a simple design with hints of vintage jewelry. The color palette for the party was pink, cream and white with lots of wood accents. The party had a combination of modern colors with rustic accent pieces. For the dessert table I ordered some fabulous custom cookies with beautiful cameos featured on each one. This was huge hit as it closely resembled one of the birthday girl’s favorite broaches which was lost. I also included strawberry cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, strawberry parfaits, mini donut rings, strawberry whoppers and a lovely strawberry cake. I used cherry blossoms in white bottles as the backdrop of the table so the beautiful wallpaper could still be visible. For the lunch the ladies were served a variety of salads and roasted vegetables, a mixed juice spritzer, white wine sangria and lemon water. All the tables had fresh flowers which were purchased the day before in the LA flower district and at a farmer’s market by myself and the hostess. At the end of the event all the ladies took home strawberry bath salt favors.” Vendor Credits- Event Design: Enchanted Events & Design Printables: Enchanted Events & Design Photography: Next Exit Photography Cookies: Denise’s Creations

British Boy Birthday Party! – Budget Friendly Party

My next party feature goes to this lovely BRITISH BOY BIRTHDAY PARTY submitted by Tina Fussell of Traveling Mama. Tina threw this fun party for her husband who turned 40 and her son who turned 3 on the same weekend! I just love the simplicity of it. Again, it goes to show that you don’t have to spend a ton of money to create a super cute party. Tina painted her own flag and created the paper garland. The darling Double Decker Bus came from Habitat.

Throwing big parties overseas is always a huge challenge for me. There is so much less available here (and the other countries we have lived) but I have always strived to still give my kids (and husband!) a special day to remember!”
