Jillian said this about the party- “My daughter Willow, is absolutely IN love with Dr. Seuss. She loves the books and the movies. The Lorax and Horton Hears a Who being her favorites. Naturally we decided to theme her 1st birthday with Dr. Seuss. We started the morning just us and our house guests with Green Eggs and Ham! It was delicious!

The invitations. I had some wording help from Pinterest, but designed the whole thing in photoshop. These images and wording are NOT my images please remember this. I only used them for personal use for the invitations.

For the party we kept the colors at blue and red. We had a blue chocolate fountain which was a huge hit! The cake was made and designed by Imagine it Cakes in El Paso, Texas. Every time Willow looked at the cake she giggled, she loved it!

Another idea I grabbed from Pinterest was Moose Juice and Goose Juice, from Dr. Seuss’s The Sleep Book. Conveniently The Green Eggs and Ham Cookbook had the recipes for the juice in it!

I even coordinated the favors! Crayon Rolls, coloring books, and snack bags! I put them in red bags with blue tissue paper. Crayon Roll was made by MrsCraftyRVing and the snack bags were made by Crafts By Diana.

We had everyone sign my daughter’s copy of the book by Dr. Seuss: Happy Birthday to You!”

This is what Louise said about planning the party- ”‘Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you’…. Dr Seuss is fantastic for both Adults and Kids. We are such big fans. We celebrated in Seussian style with our digital printable set from SunshineParties on Etsy. Our Dr Seuss party was held at home with a close group of friends. It was such a colourful fun party to create.

Decor:
Dr Seuss has many different characters, so we chose to do a Classic Dr Seuss party. As Dr Seuss is fun and quirky, this opened the flow of ideas.

We created the backdrop with fabric we bought from a local fabric store. We made tissue paper pom poms in white and blue to match the colour scheme. Our Flags that hang on the backdrop are printed and handmade. We placed our Party this way that way sign in front of the party table for depth. Laying out the food table was such fun.

The printables include Cupcake toppers, Cupcake wrappers, Birthday Party Banners, Thank you favors, Food labels, Games ideas and so much more! All digital design elements can be printed on a home PC printer and handmade. This makes the party unique and still affordable! With a little creativity this party can be amazing.

Food:
Thinking of food names got the brains working, and was such a hoot! We used Candy Floss as Cotton Candy, a local sweet called Fizzers as our some things, marshmallows dipped in chocolate, strawberries dipped in chocolate, candy wrappers covering Lindt bars. Every food item was either blue, red or white. All the food was a hit!”

Here’s what Julia said about planning the party- “I was very excited when I was asked to plan and style this Dr. Seuss Thing 1 and Thing 2 birthday party for adorable twins Brock and Brooke. I met Michele, mom of the twins, almost a year and half prior when she hired me to plan and style her older daughter Kaylee’s 3rd birthday party (and was still pregnant with the twins). Michele and her family live several states away on the Gulf Coast in Louisiana, and I live in the mountains of east Tennessee, so planning a party from such a long distance away can definitely be tricky. Despite the many miles between us, the party came together so perfectly! Believe it or not, basically all of my custom party décor, centerpieces, linens, and props flew from Tennessee to Louisiana in only one suitcase! I even had 2.5 pounds to spare in my 1 checked piece of luggage, which I dubbed my “party in a bag”.

Colors and Prints:
The colors we chose were aqua blue, red, black, and white, and the prints used were chevron and polka dots. I designed the invitations using these colors and prints, as well as the rest of the custom paper party details such as my candy, food, and drink labels, the signage, and also the paper I used to make the paper fans. I also chose fabrics to coordinate which I used for the candy table backdrop, tablecloths, and runners.

Cake and Sweets Table:
The sweets table is always my favorite part of the party to plan. I used aqua chevron fabric as well as red polka dot fabric for the backdrop and table linens. I painted a pair of custom frames I own in red to hang on the aqua chevron and placed photos of each baby in each frame. I accented each frame with a large “Thing 1” and “Thing 2” tag. For the center backdrop, and on the table, I made a red polka dot ruffled runner and placed it there since the cake was to be primarily in the blue. I found the custom fondant “Cat in the Hat”, “thing 1 & 2”, and “1” topper for sale on Etsy by an amazingly talented seller, Maria Paola, of “Paolascreations”. She even included (for free) the super cute custom fondant book which the “1” sat upon! Michele purchased the custom cake stand on etsy as well. The cupcakes were made with blue icing Thing 1 and Thing 2 styled “hair” then placed in red cupcake liners. I then attached my custom made “Thing 1” and “Thing 2” tags to the front of the cupcake liners. The smash cakes were simple and cute and were made by a friend of mine, Lisa Krause, who flew down and helped me set up the party. Maria Paola of Paolascreations also made the fondant letters to spell each baby’s name which were placed on each smash cake with a red “1” candle. I created 2 custom whimsical arrangements for the table which I placed on each side of the cake. I created red paper fans to attach behind my custom chevron candy labels. Gumballs, sixlets, rock candy, and swizzle sticks were placed in glass candy jars. I made white with red and aqua polka dot chocolate covered oreos as well as marshmallow pops to complete the table. I accented the marshmallow pops sticks with the hat cutouts from “Cat in the Hat” as well as ribbons. The last touch on the table were framed quotes from Dr. Seuss books. Balloons were then set on each side of the table.

Food and Drinks Table:
I created custom bi-fold tent cards for labeling each food. Michele served a veggie tray, “Truffula Fruit” tray, Goldfish crackers, sandwiches, cheese cubes, and chips and salsa. Drinks served were “New Blue Goo” aka Blue Hawaiian Punch and “Beezlenut Splash” aka Red Hawaiian Punch. I accented this table with chevron runners, custom toppers, framed quotes, framed photos of the babies, a custom centerpiece, and then hung a fabric covered “1” which I cut from a sheet of Styrofoam.

Highchairs:
I covered each highchair with aqua chevron fabric and then hung my custom “I am 1” birthday banners on the front of the trays. I created personalized cardstock birthday banners for each baby and hung them above the highchairs on the fence. There was a large paper fan topped with a large “B” hanging in between the two banners. I placed an accent table between each highchair with a framed sign and custom centerpiece to add more interest.

Other Décor:
For the tables for guests to sit at, I placed red tablecloths with aqua chevron runners. Two of these tables had centerpieces which I created out of candlesticks which I had spray painted red then attached “thing 1” and “thing 2” tags onto. I then attached a blue tissue pom onto the top of the candlesticks as these reminded me to the crazy hair of each of the “Things”. On the third table, I topped it with one of my custom whimsical centerpieces. Each chair was covered with a white chair cover. I also tied red and blue ribbons around the chairs to add color.

I hung paper lanterns under the covered patio and tied various red and blue ribbons from them. I created a pretty paper fan garland in the reds and aqua prints and hung it on the fence. I also created some fun “Seussville” arrow signs which I attached to a flag post and placed in the yard.

Games and Activities:
I created a “One fish, two fish, red fish, Let’s catch a fish!” game using Dr Seuss fish that I printed and cut out and attached paper clips too. We then made fishing poles out of wooden dowels and ribbon and attached a magnet to the end. The kids also enjoyed playing on the swing set in the yard as well as the playhouse.”

Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat 1st Birthday Party

My oldest son starts 1st grade today {sniff, sniff} so I thought I would share this amazing DR. SEUSS Cat in the Hat 1ST BIRTHDAY PARTY submitted by Britney Sargent! Oh the things you will see with this feature! SO many adorable ideas that would be perfect for a back to school party, baby shower & more!

Britney said- “Birthdays and special occasions have always been a huge deal in my family and especially with me. I am notorious for throwing over the top and lavish parties when it comes to my oldest son, so when my youngest son, Haston was turning one, I knew that I wanted it to be extra special. I saw a Dr. Seuss cake online and that planted the seed. I decided to go with the entire Dr. Seuss collection as opposed to “Thing one and thing Two” or “Green Eggs and Ham” because I knew I could be a lot more creative if I didn’t limit it to one of those themes. I started planning 8 months in advance which allowed me to pick things up along the way at really reasonable prices. It also allowed me to do extensive research and find so many great and inexpensive ideas, several of which I was able to make myself. I chose a park as the location for the party (Horizons Park in Winston Salem NC). I knew that I wanted it to be outside and I needed a place that was kid friendly where the kids could run free and really enjoy themselves. I hired a photographer to capture all the little moments of the day. I painted 2 large picture frames (one red and one blue) for the guests to hold up with their family members or friends and get photographed. Some of the main attractions at the party were: the truffla trees (made by me with pool noodles and tissue paper) and signs that lined the walkway leading up to the party (it gave the feel as if you were entering a theme park), gift box table tent (from Oriental Trading) where people also wrote keepsake notes to Haston, gift boxes for the kids personalized with pictures of Haston (from Birthday Express), Haston’s birthday banner/highchair banner/all 12 months picture banner (from Etsy: The Party Paper Fairy), his Dr. Seuss birthday hat and matching bib (from Etsy: Dainty Couture), the 3 tiered Dr. Seuss cake (by: Ashlee Hooks), and the themed food, desserts and candy were the MAIN attraction. Some examples of the themed food are: diffendoofer grape salad….green eggs and ham…..sneetch treats, hop on pop, kweet eggs, cheese tree, who-hash, truffula trees, truffula seeds, yertle carmel turtles, roast beast whoiches, wocket chicken pockets, hunches and bunches, poodles and noodles….all the names came from different Dr. Seuss books. All the food had labels that I made with my cricket. The party was a huge success. Everything looked and tasted great, and most importantly, Haston had a ball. It was a ton of work and many many hours were spent on the party but the smile on Haston’s face and the memories that we will have from that day are so worth all the hard work.” Vendors and Credits: Birthday Banner, High Chair Banner, Picture Banner- The Party Paper Fairy Birthday Hat and Bib- Dainty Couture Personalized Favor Boxes- Birthday Express Items in this party that are available in Kara’s Party Ideas Shop: Dr Seuss Themed Party Supplies Dr Seuss Hat Cut Outs Cat In The Hat Standing Character Paper Lanterns Mini Baking Cups Decorative Paper Shred Rock Candy, Whirly Pops, and Unicorn Pops Ribbon

“The Lorax” Themed Party – Dr. Suess Party

This LORAX THEMED DESSERT TABLE submitted by Marjaneh Etebar of Candybar Couture is too cute! All the party elements are just adorable. This would be such a fun birthday party theme. I love all the ideas Marjaneh had!
Marjaneh said- “I have always been a huge fan of the Dr. Seuss books. I went to see the movie ‘The Lorax’ with my youngest son, Jayden. Halfway through the movie, he turned to me and said, ‘Mommy, I have the bestest idea. I will help you make a Lorax candy table!’
It was Jayden’s idea to make a table full of grass and trees. We took a plastic green table cloth and glued Easter grass all over it. We continued the grass on the back drop to resemble the hills. Next, we used tissue pom poms to resemble the Truffula Trees. We looked around our candy collection and he came up with candy that reminded him of different parts of the story. I love how the twisted marshmallows reminded him of Thneeds! Not bad for a four year old!!!
My older son, Ethan gave us the idea of using cotton candy to resemble the Truffula Trees on the buffet. It was important to them both that we use some fresh fruits and vegetables because they noticed that in the movie, no one had access to fresh produce.
This table was especially fun to create because it was a project for the whole family. I especially love the adorable cake and cake pops.”
