This is what Shannon said about the party- “With construction for a new pool scheduled to begin 2 weeks before my son Brody’s 1st Birthday, I knew I was going to have a huge mess to somehow work around. Instead of worrying about it, I decided to incorporate it and therefore his construction themed party was born.

Although I chose a construction party, I still wanted it to look like a first birthday party so I had to be creative in order to make construction vehicles and tools look cute! I also added a lot of other elements that highlighted Brody’s big milestone. There were pictures from his newborn and 1 year old photo shoot as well as a huge display of his monthly growth.

I designed and made most of the party decorations including the door wreath, fabric bunting, fabric garland, table runners, birthday hat, printables and “1” elements everywhere! My dad is a general contractor so a ton of borrowed construction signs, cones and barricades also helped set the scene.

I purchased Dr. Suess’ ‘Happy Birthday to You’ book and all of the guests were asked to ‘Sign in before entering Brody’s construction zone.’

For entertainment, I set up an area for the kids to color on construction plans and play with construction vehicles. They also had a bounce house that provided hours of entertainment!

For food, we had a taco cart, Lemonade & Margaritas, tons of sweets and my parents even brought their gelato catering cart! Each of the kids were given a snack bag filled with kid friendly treats and each family was given a Dump Truck beach set to take home as a party favor. The party was a ton of fun and Brody as well as his sister, Ashlyn, had a great time!”

Mining + Construction Themed 3rd Birthday Party

This fabulous MINING + CONSTRUCTION THEMED BIRTHDAY PARTY was submitted by De Kock of Organizit Party Styling! So many adorable ideas here! I love the day wages, the dynamite, the candy rocks, the lunches…and more!

This is what De said about planning the party- “This party was such a fun one to plan! The birthday boy is crazy over anything to do with mining or construction and so ofcourse, this was the theme for his third birthday party. We had juice to quench the thirst, chips and gummy hamburgers for “lunch”, liquorice balls as “rocks”, liquorice strips for “rope”, sweet treats at the danger signs, romany creams as “dirt” and chocolate coins for the “day’s wages”. The cake was a chocolate mining construction site and the kids each received their own personalised safety helmet!”

Rachel said this about planning the party- “When our little guy turned three, I knew that we had to throw him a party that revolved around his favorite thing: construction trucks. He absolutely loves anything on wheels, and some of his favorite toys to play with are the vintage Fischer Price trucks that we have from when my husband was a child. I wanted the entire party to focus around them and their color scheme of orange, yellow, and black.

Our guests were greeted with a construction horse and work sign in our front yard that we built ourselves. Since I believe creating an entrance can be one of the best parts of party, I continued our theme with a homemade “wreath” made out of an orange extension cord and a construction sign that welcomed our ‘crew’ inside. Upon entering, each child received their own, personalized construction hat. While guests were trickling in, the children could either draw on coloring sheets with custom truck shaped crayons, or play in the sand table we set up inside to look like a constructions site- this was an instant hit!

First we played some games. We used some of the orange cones we had for decoration as a ring toss game. Next, we played a “pop the balloon” game. Every kid got a balloon that they needed to pop with their body {hands, feet, etc}. Inside each balloon was a small small slip of paper that either read “Sorry! You only uncovered a lousy rock!” or “Winner!”. After this we played two more games: a bean bag toss where they threw bags into construction truck toys of varying sizes and freeze dance. For the freeze dance, we used a sign I made that had STOP on one side, and SLOW on the other. This game was hands down the winner of the party! It was really fun to watch the kid’s bust a move :)

After games, our construction crew workers were treated to a lunch of subs, crackers, fruit cups and jello that we styled to look like the barricades you see on the sides of the road.

Our dessert table was my favorite part. Toy trucks carried “steel beam” lollipop sticks, while a cement mixer unloaded cups of “cement mix” {cookies and cream ice cream}. The large lollipops in front actually spin and were a great find at our Dollar Tree store before Halloween. The cake was created by my husband {as is our tradition}, and featured yellow and black diagonal ‘caution’ stripes inside.

Our guests were gifted with truck shaped cookies, small toy trucks with gum inside, and a goody bag filled with fun, little treats.

I had a complete blast planning this party, and the kids had a ton of fun.”

{ place settings }
i really wanted everyone seated at a table, so i covered several mighty lights with gingham fabric i bought for $1.50/yard.
the flowers came from the mountain behind my house, which perfectly contributed to the flavor of the party.
i don’t care for shiny plastic party utensils, so found these on world centric. made out of cornstarch, the forks, knives and spoons are 100% biodegradable and looked great on the table.
{ food }
thanks to shannon for the yummy baked beans and lemonade, liz for the delicious fresh fruit and heather for the homemade granola.
menu:
pulled pork sandwiches
fresh fruitgoat chesse, orange and pecan salad
baked beans
mini key lime pie
mini blueberry pie
homemade granola
lemonade
{ beverage & favor table }
this was one of my favorite elements of the party. i covered the table with burlap, hung pennants across the front and placed the basket of granola, beverages, yellow ice cooler and mini milk jug prizes on top.
again, thank you so much to all those who donated time, talents, food and serving dishes. couldn’t have done it without you. …………………………………………………………………………….
