Vintage Mickey Mouse Party Details:
This is what Katie said about planning/styling the party- “After visiting Disney World this past fall, my three year old son became obsessed with ANYTHING Mickey! So of course I had no choice but to throw him a Mickey Mouse themed party for his Birthday.
I wanted to use things we already had, and my decor style tends to be on the vintage/rustic side. I decided to go with a more vintage-old school Mickey instead of the bright colored cartoon we see on the Disney Channel today. I also didn’t want the typical Red, Black and Yellow color scheme that we see in so many Mickey parties. So I made sure I incorporated many more colors into the decor so there was a good blend and cohesive look.
I found a Vintage Mickey, 12 month calendar at Toys R’ Us with muted tones and the look I was going for, which set the tone for everything else. I made bunting flags from the calendar pictures and was lucky to find scrapbook paper to match which was used for some DIY dessert stands for the cupcakes and the #3 that sat on the dessert table.
The cake topper was a toothbrush holder I happened upon thrifting. I believe they sell it at Kmart though. He looked perfect to hold some little bunting flags made out of an extra card that wasn’t used from the invitations. And I have a secret . . . the cake isn’t real! We decided on cupcakes since we had planned a small party with only family and very close friends. So we didn’t need a big cake, or ANY cake for that matter. But I wanted him to have one to blow out his candles! So I visited my local baking supplies store and got myself a styrofoam cake for around $3. I used regular white frosting and brown chocolate sprinkles on top. No one ever knew the difference, so don’t tell!
The idea of the dessert table came from the Confectionary we visited at the Magic Kingdom. We made Mickey Mouse sugar cookies dipped in red chocolate, authentic Salt Water Taffy from our local old fashioned candy store, red velvet cupcakes with oreo topper, vintage root beer in bottles and Mickey Mouse Pez dispensers for all the kiddos! We are lucky enough to have a vintage popcorn cart which just added so much to the overall look, as well as being a fun snack for the young and old alike!
I had an unbelievable time designing this party! It took me and my husband right back to Walt Disney World and brought out the magic for us once again”!
