Thanksgiving Table Details:

This is what Alison said about planning her Thanksgiving table- ”When I set out to create my Thanksgiving table this year I had one purpose in mind – create something meaningful, simple, and something that wouldn’t break the bank. Ironically, all the décor I already had on hand and by using natural elements that could be found in my back yard my decorations were easy and cost me absolutely nothing.
The backdrop for the whole theme was to give each attendee a “gift” to start off with. This gift was the basis for the whole tablescape. Each thankful capsule was wrapped in my plaid paper design and held a tag for the thankful tree (the centerpiece) and a small pencil. Upon sitting down my desire is to ask each guest to open their gift and write one thing they are thankful for. Each person will take a turn sharing what they are grateful for and then tie the tag onto the tree in the center.
For the décor and keeping with what I had on hand I took several glass jars that I had lying around the house and spray painted them with gold, glitter spray paint (by Krylon. You can find in most craft stores). The table runner was a piece of cut fabric I had recently used to upholster a piece of furniture. The sticks, leaves, and pine cones came directly from my yard. Each place setting was set off with a place mat (two pieces of 8.5×11 sheets) of my leafy pattern paper, pewter chargers, and my wedgewood china pattern – along with each person’s gift.
Guests were also given a menu card as well as a notecard to take home to jot a note on or just enjoy.
Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday and one I love to celebrate. With the hustle and bustle, not to mention the expense, it was great to put together an elegant tablescape that was both meaningful and inexpensive to create”.

THANKFUL CAPSULES TUTORIAL:

Alison said this about the time capsules- “These are so easy to make and could be used for any occasion. They took center stage on my Thanksgiving table and I loved adding a sentimental and touching element in using them as my place settings”.

What you will need:

Decorative paper (8.5×11 sheet) or my printable plaid paper

Scissors

Tape

Twine or ribbon

Tags/paper to insert in each tube

Small pencil

Cardboard tube (paper towel or toilet paper tubes)

Step 1: Take your decorative paper and cardboard tube (if you are using a paper towel tube you will want to cut it in half to make two). Place the paper print side down lying horizontally. Be sure to place your thankful tag/paper and small pencil inside each tube before you begin wrapping them.

Step 2: Take the end closest to you and round it around the tube, taping the paper to the tube like the picture.

Step 3: Finish rolling the paper around the tubing and adhere the free edge with tape (I don’t recommend using the white labels. I used them so that you could get a better idea of where I was placing the tape. Clear tape will look much better on the finished product).

Step 4: Cut a generous amount of twine – about 9-12 inches – and tie off each side with the twine. You can either tie the tag onto one end or place on the table setting like the picture below.
